I found this map is the most impressing and attractive one for me among all the other pictures. It uses words and images at the same time to tell the whole story to the audiences in an innovative way. Every lines, color and pattern has its own meaning for the story. And the maps also show different venues like the dining room, kitchen they appeared in the story.
This map represents the home of the main character. As the map shown, the bold border lines separate the two countries ,which are named “ Republic of Matt” and “United states of Jessica”. It is clear that each of them represents the so called “ sphere of influence” for Matt and Jessica, who are the main characters in the story. These two countries are indicated as their bedroom. While the road is telling how the story starts at the beginning from the laptop, desk chair and so on , and incidents happened when Matt asked Jessica of what time is it , and the story continues until it ends at the refrigerator. At that point, the yellow road starts to vanish, and story ends at “What the Hell Was I Looking for Anyway” to somewhere that the road cannot access. This is similar to the situation that readers cannot understand what is happening because the story ends so suddenly without any expectation. There is not an ending that the story or we can achieve.
It can tell the storyline of the story for reader. But it is not in an informative or comprehensive way, maybe the writer want to provide room for our imagination. Otherwise, the audience could hardly figure out who are Matt or Jessica or how do they look like. In my opinion, if I do not refer to other pictures from Matt, I am unable to understand how the story happens. However, this is an advantage. With this lack of information, readers are allowed to have innovative image in their mind and imagine a whole new venue for the story to take place and design new appearance for the characters.
